The Bike Cuff is designed to be used with another lock. Like "The Club" for cars, the Bike Cuff is a theft deterrent. It takes care of securing the front wheel and the frame, and in the process immobilizes steering at a 40 45 degree angle. The tight adjustable fit was inspired by handcuffs. This reduces space for insertion of pry tools and cable cutters. This was a term project for IEOR 170 at the University of California Berkeley. I'm here to present you with some of the BEST bike locks on the market so that you can choose the one that's right for you! I know first hand what it's like to get your bike stolen!'
clever!…You’re a millionaire already
why cant the theif just pick up your bike and put it in a van and go…
Good Idea, but how do you stop then from cutting the post it is locked to. And then pick up the bicycle up and off they go in the VAN like polskamafia said. I have seen entire racks cut into pieces and bikes are gone..
deterant at best.
I believe this is a good idea in the fact that you made it a part of the bike.. otherwise the idea would be rubbish due to having another thing to carry. The tight fight would make it very very hard to get off, and impossible to actually ride the bike. If it looks good on the bike and works like you said, I think it would be a great deterrent. I don’t know the stats on bike thefts, but looking those up and seeing what the % is for riding off as opposed to driving off would be good in your video.
Hi, the Bike Cuff is not a lock replacement, and is designed to be used with an existing lock, such as a U-lock. The U-Lock would secure the bike to a rigid post, and the Bike Cuff would act as the theft deterrent.
this would have been a good idea if someone else hadn’t thought of it already..
master lock already came out with this a while ago sorry.
Already done, I use a pair, Master Street Lock, google it
Prevents steering?
A better selling point is the fact that it prevents the front tire from even turning
i kinda like the idea. however, if there is a uv stain on the body, will users defect it everytime they use it?? how durable is it again? can it be cut off?
best lock is a hollow u-lock with a high tension wire inside, once cut, the tension is released and a pack of C4 explosive goes off. then a big sticker on there to say that there’s a bomb inside.
Another option, high pressure acid / some super foul smelling and sticky stuff that also permeates through clothing (some smells/chemicals do this very quickly) so even if the thief replace clothes it won’t help.
Wow!
I just learned how to steal bikes! I gona get me some bikes now!
Thanks man!
after watching this video people wont even care about losing their bikes, now that they know how to steal them! lol
im gonna get bikes too! first i have to go to a bike parking lot, and go away with the loot!
One thing I noticed is with one of your product advantages where you say that the key stays in while the deterrent is not being used, therefore you don’t have to fumble for keys. The problem here is that it contradicts with another selling point. When you mentioned the storage ability of swinging the lock up to lock it to the frame, wouldn’t this allow the key to be removed since it would now be in the ‘locked’ position?
so if someone steals your $500 bike u take a blacklight and look at 6 million hands
very nice deterrent. great job of assessing needs and then meeting them. what’s it made of?
Hi Pocky,
Yep it is a good idea. As a cyclist its always worrying where you leave your bike. I have 3 bikes. Each for its purpose and locale. Annoying is the weight of protection you need to carry and even then… there are some bas tards. Still, a good idea.
Rick.
A thorough discussion for sure. Only missed one point IMHO. Proactive use of a free internet based BikeRegistry service and appropriate TAGGING of the bike back to the registry. This is the concept now used by law enforcement in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Israelis reviewed ALL Options before making their decision….
